Week 20 – Fair Catch!!

I wasn’t sure what teams Kyle Williams and Billy Cundiff were playing for yesterday, but I was certainly happy with their on field results. As dramatic as the championships were, the Super Bowl will have some significant impacts:

1. Deven and Ryan will square off for 1st place in the main pool. An epic clash between a super genius and a local hero that has had considerable luck this season.

2. Ray, Lesley, and Meghan will contend for the 3rd & 4th place money spots.

3. Vince, Sampson, and Dave all have a shot at the coveted Hot Tub title.

4. Mini Manning will try to prove to the rest of the family that he’s the chosen one capable of out-dueling Tom Brady… and he has a pretty good shot at being correct given how well the Giants have been playing.

If I didn’t mention your name, you’ll be watching from the outside like Kyle and his buddy Billy (and Ochocinco who worked hard for this potential ring)… wondering what your future will hold for next season. The good news… no one in our pool is a loser since there are a lot of different spots that you can finish in. For example, Kevin will probably finish in last place. He won’t win any money for this feat, but his unique position is something that no one can take away. Nicely done!

Don’t forget to submit your final pick sheet before the game starts and good luck!

Week 19 – The Last Giants Standing

Pretty tough to predict that both offensive juggernauts of the NFC would be eliminated before championship weekend. Instead of an epic rematch of the Saints vs. Packers we get to enjoy the Giants vs. 49ers… yay! The Packers looked pretty weak, but you have to give the Giants credit for great balance on both sides of the ball.

The volatility of the playoffs is creating a lot of stir in the pool. In addition, no one picked the 49ers or Giants in the Super Bowl (why would you have??) so we are down to the few of us that picked New England or Baltimore in the AFC at the beginning of the season. With the standings so close, the extra 10 points could make the difference in being able to purchase more Payday peanut caramel bars with your winnings. For the people in contention that did not pick Super Bowl teams… haha… that sucks.

The games are both on Sunday… make your sheet count!

Week 18 – And the curtain closes on the Steelers…

While most of us felt slightly uneasy about betting 16 on a hobbled team playing against a Tebow that had plenty of time to warm up after church, in no way would I have imagined that he wouldn’t break a sweat in overtime. I felt sorry for all the Steeler fans that wanted to capture his image on their terrible towels after the game. Sounds like a good ebay opportunity… for charitable causes of course.

Congrats to the few people that posted the flawless 80’s and those who understand it’s time for big gambles. While the Saints look like the team to beat, thanks in large to little man Sproles (5’6″ with cleats), we should be in store for some great games this weekend. Will the Packers put the Saints back on notice? Will Tebow get redemption in his second meeting? Will Deven take a dive?!?! It looks to be a dramatic finish in our pool as no money spot is truly locked up. Good luck and get your sheet in on time!

Week 17 – Good Start to the New Year :)

… But not for everyone. Along with Raheem Morris and Steve Spagnulo, Tom Corleone (and everyone else that bet on Jerry’s bunch of overpaid under achievers) woke up with a horse head in the sheets on Monday morning. This is not a reference to Lesley… she was up doing her victory dance. I know it was a tough bet and a worthwhile gamble for some, but Bob better turn the heater back on!

Most of the front runners managed to weather the potential chaos, but Rich Leatham takes home the bragging rights after only missing 2 on SEA and posting a whopping 150. Should be a nice conversation with Cassie who submitted a ????.

A reminder that all postseason games are WAGER GAMES!!! This season we are featuring point spreads, so you’ll notice you can allocate 16, 12, 8, & 4 on the games this weekend (scroll up on to find the points on the pick sheet). It’s double or negative from here on out! Good luck and don’t forget to submit your picks on time!

Week 16 – Jingle Nuts

It was certainly nice to kickoff the holiday weekend with a baffling game by the Colts. So much for the suck for Luck campaign… another loss by the Rams and a victory over the Jags could further solidify how poorly managed this team is. A third win could be as equally a bad decision as Greg’s gamble on the Falcons. Hasty move my friend!

The scores were pretty consistent, with the exception of our two most volatile players: Lelsey and Sampson. Given their history this season, there’s no need to panic as they’ll both probably drop a couple places after this weekend… along with Deven :). Very nice work!

This is the last week of the regular season… and will probably shape up to be one of the most difficult given many of the games will feature preseason stars. As an added bonus, we decided to use the Sunday night showdown as the wager game… where the winning team will extend their season by one week! All of the games are on Sunday so picks will be due before the start of the first. Good luck and hope everyone has a Happy New Year!

Week 15 – The Grinch

Or the Gimp? It’s pretty sad when the Steelers thought a man with a gimpy foot gave them a better chance of winning than anyone riding the bench. It’s a slap in the face to 49er and Steeler fans alike and equally embarrassing as the lack of light at Candlestick… the irony! It was a strange week in general, so last night was fitting.

While I can’t say that I’m complaining (now wearing the crown) I am disappointed in myself for once again misleading Meghan. I thought I was taking a risk by picking the 49ers and swayed her away. Had I known the Steelers would be dumb enough to let that bum play in such bad a shape, it would have been an easy decision. Feel free to stop listening to me… but only in NFL related matters :).

The Dirt Dog has taken a real tumble… once again posting the low score and moving far from within striking distance. Stop the bleeding! Meanwhile Danita moved into 1st and is not going to let Bob run away with the money this year. Small gambles are apparently not going to cut it!

Deven made a resurgence over the past month and clearly wants the lead back after submitting this week’s high. There are some pretty serious players on top of the leader board, so you still need to prove you can hang with the big boys (and girl) over the long haul. Rumors have been flying around on whether or not you’re capable of handling this kind of pressure.

We hope everyone has an excellent holiday and don’t forget to submit your picks by Thursday!

Week 14 – No Surprises

The great thing about Denver games is you only need to tune in for the 4th quarter. Denver will most likely be in a hole but somehow the thought of them losing never comes into play. You can fault the blunders of Marion Barber all you want, but if he didn’t fumble or run out of bounds, someone else would have. New England should be scared this week.

The diggity Dirt Dog should also be nervous after posting a pretty embarrassing score for someone being in the lead. Hopefully you’re not just trying to mock your fellow Tubbers with this poor outing. The Rams… really?!?! Bob’s not complaining as he cruised into first by posting the high for the Tub. Get it together man!

Nothing too exciting in the main pool, except that Ron kind of tanked (high standards in the main pool). Slipping 3 places and now out of the money wasn’t entirely his fault thanks to Lesley’s beastly 144! She’s been pretty volatile all season, but close enough to a money spot to make things a little uncomfortable for those ahead. I personally am not scared, but Rob may have mentioned something.

Good luck this week… Monday night is a real test and could bring some big swings!

Week 13 – Tough Losses

Da Bears are going down in flames… their defense better figure out a way to score points instead of hand them out. Doug might also need to write off the rest of the season as his strategy to gain ground is working heavily against him. Anything can happen when we reach the playoffs, but these kind of hits could be tough to overcome. You’re lucky Doug has been picking upsets, Tina… don’t lose your mojo… or moja if that’s the feminine descriptor :).

The DD, Bill E, posted the high score once again and has decided he’s taking the hot tub money this year. Beware though… last year’s hot tub winner, Bob, is starting to show form again!

Tyler posted the high in the main pool and is quietly moving up the rankings each week and in striking distance for a money spot. After another super strong performance, Meghan is within 3 points of our long standing leader, the French Assassin. I’m hoping they’ll eventually get tired of putting up big numbers and then I can make my move… like a ninja! We have another incredible Monday night game this week… good luck and don’t forget to submit your picks on time!

Week 12 – Whatta Brees

Hope everyone had an excellent Thanksgiving weekend and most of us took advantage of the easy pickins’ this week… Kevin and Doug, not so much. You guys were the only participants that failed to post at least 100 points. While I understand that Doug went for some aggressive plays in an attempt to jockey up the leader board in the main pool, Kevin continues to struggle even in his first week of the Hot Tub. I can put you in touch with Lesley or Meghan as they charge a nominal rate for pick selections each week.

Meghan posted the high score in the main pool once again and continues to put the pressure on Ray to keeps his picks up. This is getting to be exciting stuff! The only downfall is that I can’t really talk much about football at home anymore unless I carefully research what I’m about to say… I’m fearful that Meghan might call me dumb.

The Dirt Dog really turned up the heat in the hot tub with this week’s ultimate high score of 148. Wow-wee wow! For everyone else in the hot tub, it’s too early to panic. Bill’s picks are as consistent as the weather this time of year.

Good luck and don’t forget to submit before the game this Thursday night!

Week 11 – Tearing up this Sheet

Week 12 is the start of the Hot Tub, so if you want in just make sure to say “Hot Tub” when you email us your picks. It doesn’t cost anything to switch over to the Hot Tub, we just roll over $5 from your initial $25. If Ray French types anything remotely like “Hot Tub” (i.e. Hot Dog, Potluck, Robot Sub, etc.) he’s going in. Picks are due before the start of the games Thursday. Have a Happy Thanksgiving and the highly anticipated blog will follow shortly (patience Meghan)…

Kicking off this Thanksgiving, I’d first like to say that I really appreciate all my fans/support. I’m truly sorry I let the two of you down on the blog yesterday.

Although Professor McFrench is still in 1st, it’s pretty apparent that this will be short lived. There is no one hotter in the pool (or real life) than Meghan. Naysayers have speculated it’s part of this year’s big pool conspiracy, but as soon as she stopped asking for my opinions several weeks ago, Meghan’s sheet is on a different level. She picked Denver this past week because Sanchez is garbage and Tebow can’t seem to lose… there’s definitely a method to the madness and her NFL insight is getting pretty intense.

Not a lot of big losers this week, but you guys know who you are. Bob, it’s time to work your magic in the Hot Tub!
