Week 3 = $#@^

Wow… that one really sucked. After our first big upset week, many of us front runners were exposed as short distance sprinters and tanked. The Packers were very generous to let the Bears win. Pretty awesome to cough up a fumble and then give up 40+/- yards of penalties in the Bears’ game winning drive in the final 2 minutes. At least a lot of us will bounce back from this anomaly whereas the Bucs just showed that their first two wins were probably their season’s outliers.

There were a couple losers… I mean winners… that grasped at a Bears’ victory as a chance for new life. The gamble paid off big time for Ryan Sampson. His high of 112 moved him up to 2nd overall. That’s some bull$#@^. Congrats Sampson!

Sean Campbell still holds a sizable lead given another solid performance. Many are questioning if he has in fact cracked the system. The good news for everyone is that the pool is fixed much like NASCAR. You’ll see what happens in the end if you don’t already know.

Luckily for me a few people managed to somehow do worse. Gary Jones is a good man! Thanks for taking one for the team with that nasty 41.

Teams start their byes so we will not have 16 game weeks for a while. Everything has been updated and don’t forget to send your picks in on time!

Week 2 Results…

Only the most elite participants (or robots) can over deliver in weeks like this past. Everyone else can dry your eyes because a lot of you were in the same average boat and will live on to compete against the same average people. Nah… it really is way too early in the season to panic…

… unless you’re Favre and wondering why exactly you came back from the Shady Acres retirement community.  Minnesota = done. Favre should stick with his YMCA rec. league next year (at best). In addition, the Cowboys certainly don’t disappoint. I’m pretty sure anyone in this pool is qualified for a max contract from Jerry Jones for a coaching position; including the ladies but only if you’re interested in coaching cheerleading. Don’t be offended… I’d probably take that job. However, many of you will roll the dice and put high points on both the Vikings and Cowboys this weekend… again… which is good because every winner needs a loser. But the million dollar questions is… will you be so bold as to pick against the 2-0 Bucs this week?!?!

Our good friend Chris Gunn, who sailed across the Atlantic with nothing but fresh water and a bag of limes, posted this weeks high score of 125! I have a feeling this is a fluke because the English don’t know anything about real football. Regardless, congrats and cheerio ol’ chap!

We don’t make fun of people who forget to submit picks… we just take their money and smile. Having said, this week’s biggest loser has had a rough start. Kevin Hourigan is pretty competitive in life… but not so much in this pool. He was close to the bottom last week and struck oil with his incredible 53 this time! My dumb Jerry Jones’ comment does not apply to him. Stop the leak before it’s too late Kevin!!

The new pick sheet is posted. Don’t forget to submit before the first game starts on Sunday. David Huey must be feeling pretty nervous in 3rd… I have a feeling another Huey will bump him out of the top 3 by next Tuesday. Good luck everyone!

Week 1 Results…

The results are in! If you want to avoid my commentary, just click over to the current standings page and see how far down the list you are… if you are ignoring my post, hopefully you are towards the bottom.

Here are some high points from this week’s matchups: (1)Favre is old. I know a lot of old people in the pool are pulling for him (he did have a magical ’09) but he’s still old and missed all preseason conditioning; so this year he is old and out of shape. (2)The Bucs won! If we win two more games this season we can shut all those analysts up. (3) 49ers are garbage. (4) Cowboys are overrated and have a lot of money to waste. (5) The only offensive display worse than the 49ers was that of the Jets! Which is funny, because a lot of you jumped on this bandwagon… because their offense was so good last year?? (6) The rain helped mask Philip River’s tears last night… and mine.

Sean Campbell is a pretty dangerous competitor. He creates spreadsheets while sleeping and can solve the Rubik’s cube blindfolded and underwater in less than 20 seconds. He may have finally unlocked the complex pool algorithm judging by his performance this week. He only missed a few games and bet the farm on Baltimore… he even lives in NY for all you Sanchez believers. Nice one!

Surprisingly this week’s loser was not a female. It was Bill Eshenbaugh. All it took was a good wager bet to beat his lowly 24 points. He was big on the Jets and I tried talking some sense into him. Bill likes to play the pool in peaks in troughs and many of us believe it is a marketing scheme to get his name out there even more. However, despite his several low scoring weeks last season, he still managed to finish 4th overall so there might be a method to the madness. Come on Bill… Kim even beat you this week!

Don’t forget to visit the Weekly Pick Sheet page and get your picks in before the start of the first game on Sunday. Sheet will be updated and posted today. Also, you need to submit your AFC and NFC picks for the Super Bowl. Just email these to Rob or I along with your pick sheet this week.

Welcome to the 2010 Pool!

Due to high demand, we decided to splurge this season and create an official site. We also did this because some people think my updates are not funny and/or have ‘work’ to do and don’t want to be inundated with what some have termed as SPAM. Any email from Rob or I should be treasured… the rest are pretty much crap. We also apologize for Kim’s poems and that Mark has awakened the football demon (aka Lesley). We tried to dissuade her for many years from entering our pool and now we all must suffer thanks to Mark’s rookie mistake. So behold the humble beginnings of our site… it may be simple but so was Tecmo Bowl. To avoid further disruption, we will use this site as our blogging and update vehicle. In addition to posts and any smack talk you want to conduct (which may include poems I guess), you will also be able to download your weekly pick sheets. Please register with the site ASAP as we plan to close this by Sep. 30.
