Week 2 – Tickle Me Beard – Tall Tales by R.J. Fitzpatrick

fitz_p

Week 2 undoubtedly had some all around flukiness to it… in fact, the one consistent thus far is Bautista’s pool performance. New to the cult this year, Bautista goes by many names including Tom Brady’s ‘other lover’. Tom Brady only dates winners or models… real models… not guys who work on financial models.

Little brother Huey… ballsy move on the Jets. Fitzpatrick is probably patting himself on the back and saying the same thing as this is at least the 7th team he’s played for. You and Rich have some large targets on your backs.

Better luck to all of us this week and get your picks in on Thursday. Also, it’s money time…

Week 1 – Pass the Crepes

jameis-winston-marcus-mariotaSome thought that the Mariota/Winston showdown would be like the end of the Highlander where MacLeod uses the skills that Sean Connery taught him to get redemption against the Kurgan for all his hopes and loved ones that were lost along the way. Others thought it would be like Ricky Bobby’s day of self reckoning… an opportunity to show that he truly deserved a place next to the great Jean Girard. But what we really got was something almost as embarrassing as Papa Ron’s score this week. Jason… you weren’t much better.

Similar to Romo’s meteoric comeback, Faulkner and May got off to a solid start posting the opening week highs. You should both enjoy some thin pancakes in celebration. I do want everyone to know that my Grandmother (aka Nana) has finally decided to play this season and “take everyone’s money”. Right now, Olga sits in 4th place, which is well ahead of Bob in 9th. I just wanted to make sure I got to throw a little gas on that fire 🙂

Picks sheets are posted and don’t forget to get them in before the start of the game on Thursday night! Your AFC & NFC Super Bowl teams are due this week as well… please include in your email. Also, some people have asked if PayPal works for payment… yup, it is an option so just let me know if it’s your preferred method. Good luck this week!!

Fee-fi-fo-’15!!

hungryYup… It’s time to get back to season form… 9,000 calories of proper fixings every Sunday for the next several months! More importantly, we’ll see who’s hungry for the crown this season and if anyone is good enough to dethrone Meghan. She thinks… “not so much and that most participants are as soft as the Jets’ QB roster / Geno Smith’s jaw”. She didn’t really say that… she likes everyone.

The blog may be a little more short and sweet this year due to a new member of our family that’s anticipated to arrive around October 12th (which is also Columbus Day;  commemorates the day when Italian navigator Christopher Columbus landed in the New World). However, this particular C-day could be Callan Robert day for us (aka C-Bob / C-Rob)! Will the first thing he watches be the Monday night Steelers at Chargers game?!?

We look forward to having everyone back and the first pick sheet has been posted! Week 1 picks are due prior to kickoff on Thursday, September 10th! Also… send me yo money… where it will forever remain!

Week 21 – Patriotic Heroes

interceptionSatisfying games can be a rarity… similar to football pools that offer such greatness as the MFP. If the last few minutes of that game didn’t leave you speechless, you’re hanging with the wrong crowd. Around week 5 the media was calling for some guy named Galifianakus or something to replace Brady… fast forward to the AFC Championship ‘deflate gate’ where apparently the Colts beat down needed to be overshadowed by something… anything!?!? Every story that shares how Brady is trying to give the MVP truck to Butler will most certainly include something to the extent of “what’s a Chevy Colorado to Tom Brady?”. It’s nothing… everyone already knows that. The real story is about leadership and accountability. I was fairly neutral going into that game… I mean I was pulling for my lovely wife to win this mofo! However, the Patriots deserved the victory for all the BS they’ve had to put up with this season… they also deserve some apologies.

As I write this in tears now that football season is over (and because I’m writing a bunch of checks since I’m not so good), I just wanted to thank everyone for playing as well as your kind weekly remarks and often intense emails. I did want to make one stat correction for whoever wrote “the Bills suck worse than a 1907 Hoover”… sales of the Model 0 didn’t actually start until 1908. Meghan gets all the credit this season… she hung in strong all year despite weekly pool pressure and a little thing called packing all your s#$t and moving across the Country. Compared to living with me, this pool is a breeze! The girls have taken control of the big payoff for two straight years… times are a changing!

Congrats also go to Snowflake, Huey Sr, Dale the Magic Man, and Mr. Radford… your names are all instilled in the Hall of Fame for Meghan to look down upon!! Until next season…

Week 20 – Deflating for Some

super-bowl-2015I’m not sure what the Colts think would have changed if a couple extra balls had a little more air.  I’m filing a complaint to myself that the Hot Tub didn’t have enough bubbles or something since Trey seemed to blow everyone out. For the first time in pool history, the Hot Tub has been secured before the final game… Trey just gets to sit back and relax. Congrats!!

The main pool is a completely different story. It’s going to be another race for the money! With the early season Super Bowl prediction points accounted for, Huey Sr has taken a slight lead over Meghan. The final game could account for up to a 39 point swing… this means the crown could go to Mark, Meghan, or Kevin with everyone in the top 6 having a shot at some greenery. Good luck and don’t forget to finish the season strong!!

Week 17 – The Bucs did something right!

Don’t forget… playoffs start on Saturday and all games are wager games from here on out! No one is safe and this season is shaping up to be another race to the finish!!

Week 16 – Ho Ho Hello

Sorry the bloggin’ has been weak the past few weeks! In an effort to appease Santa, I wanted to give everyone their due credit from week 13 – Christmas present…

christmas-lists-for-all-32-nfl-teams

Main Pool Winners:

Week 13 – The Lamplough-nator (because every name gets a little better with a ‘nator’ at the end)

Week 14 – Kyle Mc’Zipp’erson (who decided to end his first season on a high note; which is really a low note because we’re not fans of quitters)

Week 15 – Snowflake Hourigan (who looks to be unstoppable) & Josh D (trying to save face at home)

Week 16 – Snowflake Hourigan (yea… back to back)

Main Pool Loo-hoo-sa-errs:

Week 13 – Stacie D (still in the hunt for money but this didn’t help the cause)

Week 14 – The Lamplough-nator (after saving the world in week 13 it was time for self destruction)

Week 15 – Carie

Week 16 – Carie (Week 17 – Carie… Week 18 – Carie… Week 19… :))

Hot Tub Wieners:

Week 13 – Danita the Great!

Week 14 – Bill H (nice work Bill!)

Week 15 – Danita the really Great!!

Week 16 – Trey Radford (via the ballsiest pool move ever in picking Cincy while in 1st place)

Hot Tub Losers… at least you’re in good company as we’ve all been losers at some point:

Week 13 – Sampson (no love this season)

Week 14 – Brittany (there are plenty of things to be happy about… but this isn’t one of them)

Week 15 – Rich (good thing Cassie is doing really well)

Week 16 – Lori P (rough year!)

Hope everyone had a great Christmas… end the year on a high note in the pool!! Get your picks in before kickoff on Sunday!

Week 12 – Sack-cess

ravens_sackSo yea… the Saints lost and the NFC South continues to be the wrong side of town to cheer for. This was an interesting week to pencil the upset and ended up paying dividends (or just extra pool points) for Carie and Trey (who now leads the first week of the Hot Tub). Carie is more than slightly out of a money spot, but at least the Bucs beat the Skins last week… actually that’s not good news for her either.

Brittany entered the Hot Tub with a splash… which isn’t appropriate considering it should be a more peaceful place. For example, if you were at a community pool somewhere, security might ask you to leave. This could take the guard away from monitoring the community basketball courts which in turn could afford local hoodlums the opportunity to bully some of the smaller children trying to hoop it up. One of these kids may have had the natural ability to become the next superstar / philanthropist whose charitable contributions would lead the charge to cure some of the world’s most challenging diseases. We like to fight diseases so please don’t splash the Hot Tub again.

Hope everyone has an excellent Thanksgiving full of great food and FOOTBALL! Don’t forget about your picks before the start of the first game!

Week 11 – TBD

Still need to load a few week 11 submissions before the update… should be done tomorrow evening. In the meantime, the week 12 pick sheet is up. Remember this is the first week of the Hot Tub so be sure to let me know if you’ve decided to swim in warmer waters when you email me your picks this week!

Weak 9 & Week 10 – The Red Rocket

I know… it was a weak effort on my part for week 9 updates. The truth is that Meghan and I got the call from Jerry Jones and are heading out to the Big-D just in time to witness the November/December Cowboy implosion!! Life’s a little crazy, but we do look forward to linking up with our seasoned pool veteran, friend, and soon to be neighbor… the Ray Frenchman!

Sampson was hoping I’d skip the week 9 update… what I really lacked was inspiration. It all came to me on Thursday night when I watched raggedy Andy throw nearly 30% of his completed passes to guys in Brown’s jerseys. And just when I thought someone couldn’t possibly be any dumber (in honor of Dumb and Dumber To)… Dylan & Sampson step up with equally impressive performances.Dylan&Sampson

John L & Captain Ronny squeaked out the high scores for the past two weeks. I’m about as amped up to talk about you guys as Jay Cutler was to congratulate Rodgers. Kudos… that’s all you’re getting until I start doing better.

Having said, week 12 is the start of the Hot Tub!!! For all of us on the bottom, this is a chance for a fresh start in a winner take all side pool… if you’re new, check the rules page for more details. When you submit week 12 picks, just include in the email that you want in the lesser competitive league. Good luck this week!
